What Does Unable to Charge, Check Charge Port (Tesla) Mean on an EV Charger?

Your Tesla is displaying an error about the charge port. This can be caused by a misaligned connector, debris in the port, a latch issue, or a charge port actuator fault.

  2. Try stopping and restarting the session from the charging app or RFID card.
  3. If the error persists, move to a different connector or charger if available.

What to do

  1. Open and close the charge port door using the touchscreen or the Tesla app
  2. Inspect the charge port for debris, ice, or visible damage
  3. Try pressing the connector button while inserting to manually release the latch
  4. Reboot the touchscreen (hold both scroll wheels for 10 seconds) and try again
  5. If the charge port latch is stuck, you can use the manual release cable in the trunk (check your owner's manual for location)
