EV Charger Error

Reduce Charging Current

Updated March 2026

Share

This is general guidance based on the ChargeX MREC standard. Actual charger behavior varies by manufacturer and firmware version. Always follow on-screen instructions and contact the charging network if you are unsure.

Warning

Your vehicle is asking for less power than the charger can provide. This is normal in certain situations: the battery is nearly full, the battery is very hot or cold, or the vehicle's onboard charger is limiting current to protect itself.

What to do

  1. This is often normal behavior, not an error. Check your state of charge
  2. If the battery is above 80%, charging speed naturally decreases
  3. If the battery is cold, speed will increase as the battery warms up
  4. If this happens consistently at low state of charge, contact your vehicle manufacturer
