EV Charger Error

What Does Cable Over Temperature (Tritium) Mean on an EV Charger?

Updated March 2026

Share

This is general guidance based on Tritium Charging. Actual charger behavior varies by manufacturer and firmware version. Always follow on-screen instructions and contact the charging network if you are unsure. If anything looks or feels unsafe, stop charging and move away from the charger.

Warning

The temperature sensor in the Tritium charger's liquid-cooled cable detected excessive heat. Power has been reduced or charging has stopped to prevent cable damage.

Seeing this on the charger right now?

  1. Don't unplug while the charger is active. Wait for the screen to update.
  2. Try stopping and restarting the session from the charging app or RFID card.
  3. If the error persists, move to a different connector or charger if available.

Read the full explanation below, or scan the charger screen with EVcourse for instant help.

What to do

  1. If charging continues at reduced power, the cable is cooling itself. Wait for it to stabilize
  2. If charging stopped, unplug and let the cable rest for a few minutes
  3. Do not coil or kink the cable while charging. This can trap heat
  4. If the cable feels unusually hot to the touch, report it to the network immediately
