Tips for Charging with Tesla Supercharger in Spain
- The Tesla app or contactless card payment at V4 stations is needed for payment. Set up your account before arriving in Spain, or use a contactless card at V4 stalls.
- Summer heat in Spain can cause your battery to thermal throttle during charging, especially after sustained high-speed driving. Your charging speed may peak and then drop. This is normal.
- Main corridors like Madrid-Barcelona, Madrid-Seville, and the Mediterranean coast have solid Supercharger coverage. Inland routes through Extremadura or Castilla-La Mancha are less covered.
- Spanish autopista tolls vary by region. Some routes are free, others are not. Budget for both tolls and charging.
Common Issues
- Heat-related charging speed drops are common in summer, especially in southern Spain. Your car may limit charging power to protect the battery.
- Coverage gaps exist in rural inland areas. Plan your route through well-covered corridors when possible.
- Non-Tesla drivers sometimes have trouble with app authentication on their first visit. Make sure location services are on and the app is up to date.
- Some Supercharger locations in Spain are at hotels or commercial centers with limited parking during business hours.
Spain has other fast-charging networks expanding along its autopistas, so you can find alternative chargers on major routes.
