Tips for Charging with Tesla Supercharger in Finland
- Always precondition your battery before arriving at a Supercharger in Finland. Winter temperatures regularly drop below -20C, and a cold battery can charge at half its normal speed or less.
- Finland uses CCS2 for DC charging. All Superchargers have CCS2, compatible with any modern EV.
- Stations are more spread out in northern Finland. If you are driving above Oulu, plan stops carefully and keep a comfortable buffer.
- Finnish electricity is cheap at around 0.14 EUR per kWh. If you have access to home or workplace charging, that is by far the most cost-effective option.
Common Issues
- Cold batteries in winter are the most common issue. Without preconditioning, charging can be painfully slow. Start your car's battery heater well before arriving.
- Snow and ice can accumulate around charging stalls. Be careful with footing and make sure the CCS connector is free of ice before plugging in.
- Coverage thins out in Lapland. If you are driving north of Rovaniemi, plan your stops with generous range margins.
- The Tesla app may load slowly on mobile data in remote areas. Check station details while on Wi-Fi.
Finland has other DC fast-charging networks along its main highways, giving you options if a Supercharger is unavailable or too far from your route.
