Charging Stopped Unexpectedly
Your car was charging but the session ended before you expected
Charging started fine but stopped before your car was full. This can be caused by your car, the charger, or the charging network. Here is how to figure out which one and what to do next.
Your situation
You started charging and it was working, but the session ended earlier than expected. Your battery is not at the level you wanted.
What to try first
- 1
Check your car's charge limit setting
If you set a charge limit (for example 80%), your car will stop charging when it reaches that level. Check your car's charging settings on the touchscreen or app.
- 2
Check for a session time or energy limit
Some chargers have maximum session lengths (30-60 minutes) or energy limits (50 kWh). Check the charger screen or the network's app for session limits.
- 3
Check the battery temperature
If the battery gets too hot or too cold during charging, the car will reduce speed or stop entirely. This is a safety feature. Wait for the temperature to normalize, then restart the session.

Frequently asked questions
Why did my EV stop charging at 80%?
Most likely your car has a charge limit set to 80%. Many EVs default to this because charging above 80% is slower and can reduce long-term battery health. Check your car's settings if you want to charge higher. For daily driving, 80% is usually enough.
Can I restart a charging session that stopped?
Yes. Unplug, wait a moment, plug back in, and re-authenticate. If the charger has a session time limit, you may need to start a new paid session. Some networks charge an idle fee if you leave the car connected after charging completes, so restart promptly.
