Plug Not Recognized

Updated March 2026

Share

This is general guidance based on the ChargeX MREC standard. Actual charger behavior varies by manufacturer and firmware version. Always follow on-screen instructions and contact the charging network if you are unsure.

Warning

Your vehicle does not recognize the charging connector. This can happen if the connector type is incompatible, the plug is not fully seated, or there is a communication issue during the initial handshake.

What to do

  1. Remove the connector and reinsert it firmly until it clicks
  2. Make sure you are using the correct connector type for your vehicle (CCS, CHAdeMO, Type 2)
  3. Check the charge port for debris or ice blocking a full connection
  4. Try a different charger. Some charger-vehicle combinations have compatibility issues

Who's responsible?

  • This may be something you can fix yourself
  • This may be a vehicle issue
