EV Charger Error

What Does Precharge Failure (Alpitronic HYC) Mean on an EV Charger?

Updated March 2026

Share

This is general guidance based on Alpitronic. Actual charger behavior varies by manufacturer and firmware version. Always follow on-screen instructions and contact the charging network if you are unsure. If anything looks or feels unsafe, stop charging and move away from the charger.

Critical

The Alpitronic Hypercharger failed during the precharge phase. Before DC charging starts, the charger must match its output voltage to the vehicle's battery voltage. If this fails, charging cannot begin.

Seeing this on the charger right now?

  1. Don't unplug while the charger is active. Wait for the screen to update.
  2. Try stopping and restarting the session from the charging app or RFID card.
  3. If the error persists, move to a different connector or charger if available.

What to do

  1. Unplug, wait 30 seconds, and try again
  2. Make sure the connector is fully seated in the charge port
  3. If using CCS, try the other CCS connector on the unit if available
  4. This can be caused by a vehicle-side issue. Try a different charger brand to confirm
