What Does PLC Communication Fault (Alpitronic HYC) Mean on an EV Charger?

Updated March 2026

Share

This is general guidance based on Alpitronic. Actual charger behavior varies by manufacturer and firmware version. Always follow on-screen instructions and contact the charging network if you are unsure. If anything looks or feels unsafe, stop charging and move away from the charger.

Critical

The Alpitronic Hypercharger failed to establish power line communication (PLC) with the vehicle over the CCS connector. PLC is required for CCS DC charging to negotiate power levels.

Seeing this on the charger right now?

  1. Don't unplug while the charger is active. Wait for the screen to update.
  2. Try stopping and restarting the session from the charging app or RFID card.
  3. If the error persists, move to a different connector or charger if available.

Read the full explanation below, or scan the charger screen with EVcourse for instant help.

What to do

  1. Unplug and re-insert the CCS connector firmly
  2. Clean the connector pins if they appear dirty
  3. Try the other CCS connector on the unit
  4. Some vehicles have intermittent PLC issues. Restarting your vehicle (turn off, wait, turn on) can help
  5. If this happens every time with your vehicle, it may need a software update from the manufacturer
