Winter Range

Volvo EX90 Winter Range

Updated March 2026

The Volvo EX90 is well-prepared for winter with a standard heat pump and preconditioning. Its large 107 kWh battery provides a generous buffer for cold-weather range loss. Based on what our users tell us, the EX90 handles freezing conditions confidently. At -10C, expect about 20% range reduction from the 480 km rated range, still leaving roughly 385 km. In cold weather, expect roughly 454 km at -10°C, a loss of about 27%. These are estimates and your actual range will vary. Check your vehicle's manual for exact specifications.

Maximizing Winter Range

  • Precondition the EX90 through the Volvo app while plugged in. The large three-row cabin takes more energy to heat, so warming it from grid power before departure preserves meaningful range.
  • The EX90's heated seats are available across multiple rows. Use them at a lower cabin temperature to keep all passengers comfortable while reducing the energy drain from the HVAC system.
  • Keep the EX90 plugged in when parked in cold weather. The 107 kWh battery stays at a healthier temperature and delivers better performance on the next drive.
  • Navigate to fast chargers using the car's system to trigger automatic battery preheating. This ensures the EX90's 250 kW DC charging speed is available even after the car has been sitting in cold weather.
  • The EX90's consumption of 21.1 kWh per 100 km increases in winter. On cold-weather road trips, plan stops about 20% closer together than you would in summer to keep a comfortable range buffer.
