Winter Range

Volvo EX30 Winter Range

Updated March 2026

The Volvo EX30 comes with a standard heat pump and preconditioning, which is especially valuable given its compact 65 kWh battery. Based on what our users tell us, the EX30 holds up well in cold weather for its size. At -10C, expect about 20% less range than the rated 365 km, leaving you with roughly 290 km. In cold weather, expect roughly 347 km at -10°C, a loss of about 27%. These are estimates and your actual range will vary. Check your vehicle's manual for exact specifications.

Maximizing Winter Range

  • Precondition the EX30 through the Volvo app while plugged in. Its compact cabin heats up quickly, so even a short preconditioning session makes a noticeable difference to your starting range.
  • The EX30's smaller battery means every kWh counts more in winter. Use heated seats and the heated steering wheel instead of high cabin temperatures to stretch your range further.
  • Keep the EX30 plugged in whenever parked in cold weather. The battery stays warmer and performs better on your next drive, both in terms of range and available power.
  • The EX30's 158 kW DC charging speed may be reduced if the battery is cold. Navigate to fast chargers using the car's system, which triggers battery preheating to ensure you get peak charging speed on arrival.
  • In very cold conditions (below -20C), expect about 28% range reduction. With a 65 kWh battery, this means roughly 260 km. Plan winter trips with shorter legs and more frequent stops.
