Winter Range

Smart #1 Winter Range

Updated March 2026

The Smart #1 handles winter well thanks to its standard heat pump and battery preconditioning. With a 62 kWh battery and 335 km of rated range, it has enough capacity to absorb winter losses and still cover most daily needs. Drivers using our app report that preconditioning before departure makes a clear difference in cold-weather efficiency. In cold weather, expect roughly 307 km at -10°C, a loss of about 27%. These are estimates and your actual range will vary. Check your vehicle's manual for exact specifications.

Maximizing Winter Range

  • Expect about 28% range loss at -20C and about 20% at -10C, thanks to the standard heat pump. That gives you roughly 240 km at -20C and 268 km at -10C.
  • Use preconditioning while still plugged in to warm the battery and cabin before departure. This uses grid power instead of battery power, preserving range for driving.
  • The heat pump keeps cabin heating efficient, but avoid setting the temperature too high. Every degree above what you need draws extra energy, even with a heat pump.
  • Use seat and steering wheel heating as your primary warmth source. These use a fraction of the energy compared to raising the overall cabin temperature.
  • Precondition the battery before DC fast charging in cold weather. The Smart #1 supports this and it helps maintain charging speeds closer to the 150 kW peak.
