Winter Range

Kia EV9 Winter Range

Updated March 2026

The Kia EV9 comes with a standard heat pump and preconditioning, both of which help preserve its 450 km range in cold weather. Drivers using our app report that the EV9 handles winter conditions well for its size, though the large cabin does require more energy to heat. At -10C, expect roughly 20% range reduction with the heat pump doing its job. In cold weather, expect roughly 423 km at -10°C, a loss of about 27%. These are estimates and your actual range will vary. Check your vehicle's manual for exact specifications.

Maximizing Winter Range

  • Always precondition the EV9 while plugged in before winter trips. The large cabin takes more energy to heat, and doing it from grid power rather than battery power makes a real difference.
  • Use the EV9's heated seats for all occupied rows instead of raising the cabin temperature. The third-row heated seats are especially useful for keeping passengers comfortable without draining the battery.
  • Keep the EV9 plugged in when parked outdoors in cold weather. The 96 kWh battery loses less charge to cold-soaking when it stays warm, and you start each drive with better performance.
  • In very cold conditions (below -15C), the EV9's DC charging speed may be lower than usual if the battery is cold. Use the navigation system to route to a fast charger, which triggers automatic battery preconditioning.
  • The EV9's higher consumption (21.3 kWh per 100 km) increases proportionally in cold weather. Plan winter road trips with shorter intervals between charging stops than you would in summer.
