Allego in Italy

Updated March 2026

Allego operates up to 350 kW ultra-rapid chargers in Italy, with most stations concentrated in the northern part of the country. Italy's charging infrastructure is expanding, but coverage thins out as you head south. Based on what our users tell us, Allego is a reliable option for trips through northern Italy and along the Autostrade, though planning ahead is important for longer journeys.

How to Pay at Allego in Italy

Allego accepts the Allego app, RFID cards, and contactless bank cards. Contactless is the simplest payment method and widely supported at newer Italian charging stations. No registration needed for contactless.

Allego's average DC rate of about 0.69 EUR/kWh is above Italy's national DC average of roughly 0.60 EUR/kWh. Home electricity in Italy costs around 0.27 EUR/kWh. The premium is smaller here than in some other countries, but still worth comparing with local Italian operators.

Tips for Charging with Allego in Italy

  • CCS2 is the standard fast-charging connector in Italy. CHAdeMO is available at some Allego locations.
  • Most Allego stations in Italy are in the north. If you are heading to central or southern Italy, check coverage maps carefully.
  • Italian Autostrade service areas (Autogrill locations) are common spots for fast chargers. Allego may be at some of these.
  • Italian toll roads (pedaggi) add to the cost of a trip. Factor in both tolls and charging when budgeting.
  • Summer heat can affect charging speed. If your battery is very hot from driving, the car may throttle charging to protect the battery.

Common Issues

  • Coverage in southern Italy is limited. Allego's strength is in the north, so plan alternative networks for trips south of Rome.
  • Summer heat and driving at high speeds on the Autostrade can warm your battery, reducing charging speeds at the charger.
  • Some Italian service area chargers can be tricky to find. They may be tucked behind the main building or in a separate parking section.

Italy has other charging networks expanding across the country, including operators focused on electrifying the Autostrade highway system.
