How to Pay at Allego in Germany

Allego accepts the Allego app, RFID cards, and contactless bank cards. In Germany, eRoaming through Hubject also lets you access Allego via many third-party apps. Contactless payment requires no account and works at most newer installations.

Allego's average DC rate of about 0.69 EUR/kWh is above Germany's national DC average of roughly 0.59 EUR/kWh. Home electricity costs about 0.35 EUR/kWh. While Allego's per-kWh price is on the higher side, the 350 kW speeds mean you spend less time at the charger, which can offset the cost difference for time-sensitive stops.

Tips for Charging with Allego in Germany

  • Allego's 350 kW chargers are among the fastest you will find on the Autobahn. Look for their ultra-rapid hubs at service areas.
  • CCS2 is the standard connector. CHAdeMO is available at some older Allego stations.
  • eRoaming through Hubject means you can often use Allego chargers through other apps. But compare pricing, as roaming can add a surcharge.
  • Eichrecht compliance means the charger shows you the exact per-kWh price before you start. No surprises.
  • Allego stations along the A1, A3, and A9 corridors offer good coverage for north-south travel through Germany.

Common Issues

  • The premium per-kWh rate means Allego is not the cheapest option. Compare with other operators if cost matters more than speed.
  • Power sharing at some multi-stall locations can reduce your charging speed when other cars are plugged in.
  • Popular Autobahn hubs near major city exits can be busy during peak hours and holiday traffic.

Germany has an extensive fast-charging network with many other operators along the Autobahn and in cities.
