The Mercedes eSprinter's large 113 kWh battery provides a buffer against winter range loss, but its high 342 Wh/km consumption and large cabin create challenges in cold weather. With preconditioning available and the optional heat pump, winter performance can be improved. Drivers using our app report that preconditioning at the depot is essential for cold-weather operation. Maximizing Winter Range

  • Without the heat pump, expect about 35% range loss at -20C (about 215 km) and 25% at -10C (about 248 km). With the optional heat pump, losses drop to about 28% at -20C (about 238 km) and 20% at -10C (about 264 km).
  • Use preconditioning while plugged in at the depot. The eSprinter supports this, and warming the battery and cabin using depot power instead of battery power is critical for a van with this level of consumption.
  • If your eSprinter has the optional heat pump, make sure it is active in cold weather. Heating the eSprinter's large cabin with a resistive heater drains the battery much faster.
  • Minimize cabin heating by using seat heating and wearing warm clothing. The eSprinter's large interior takes significant energy to heat, even with a heat pump.
  • Plan shorter routes in winter. Even with the large 113 kWh battery, the eSprinter's high consumption means winter range can drop enough to affect long delivery days.
