Winter Range

Ford E-Transit Winter Range

Updated March 2026

The Ford E-Transit faces significant winter challenges with its 68 kWh battery, no heat pump, and large cabin to heat. Its 250 km range shrinks noticeably in cold weather. Drivers using our app report that preconditioning at the depot before departure is critical for maintaining usable range on delivery routes. In cold weather, expect roughly 231 km at -10°C, a loss of about 27%. These are estimates and your actual range will vary. Check your vehicle's manual for exact specifications.

Maximizing Winter Range

  • Expect about 35% range loss at -20C and about 25% at -10C without a heat pump. That means roughly 160 km at -20C and 185 km at -10C, which significantly tightens delivery routes.
  • Use preconditioning while plugged in at the depot. The E-Transit supports this, and it warms the battery and cabin using depot power instead of draining the battery before you even start.
  • Minimize cabin heating when possible. The E-Transit's large cargo area is not insulated from the cab, so heating is less efficient than in a passenger car. Use seat heating and dress warmly.
  • Shorten delivery routes in winter. The E-Transit's already moderate range drops enough in cold weather that routes need to be tighter to avoid needing a slow mid-day public charge.
  • Keep the E-Transit in a heated depot or garage overnight. A warmer starting battery retains more capacity and responds better to preconditioning.
