Tips for Charging with Shell Recharge in France
- Shell Recharge accepts app, RFID, and contactless payment in France. Contactless works well at Shell-branded stations.
- French autoroute rest areas (aires de service) often have chargers from multiple operators. Shell Recharge roaming can access many of them.
- France is large. For trips like Paris to Nice or Bordeaux to Strasbourg, plan two or three charging stops and do not try to stretch your battery to the limit.
- Autoroute tolls add to your trip cost. Factor both toll and charging expenses when comparing EV travel costs to fuel.
Common Issues
- Roaming prices in France can be significantly higher than charging directly with autoroute operators. Compare costs in the app before starting.
- Summer holiday traffic (July and August) can fill autoroute chargers. Charge during off-peak hours if possible.
- Some rural autoroute rest areas have limited mobile data coverage, which can delay app authentication.
- CHAdeMO connectors are available at some stations but increasingly rare. Verify availability if your car requires CHAdeMO.
France has several other charging networks and operators along its autoroutes, so you can find alternatives nearby if Shell Recharge stations are busy or too expensive.
