Country Guide

EV Charging in Luxembourg

Updated March 2026

Luxembourg is one of the best countries in Europe for EV charging relative to its size. Chargy, the national charging network, covers the country densely with AC and DC chargers. The country is small enough to cross in under an hour, so range anxiety is rarely an issue.

EV charging infrastructure changes quickly. Networks expand, pricing updates, apps change, and new chargers appear regularly. The information on this page reflects general conditions as of early 2026, but always verify details with the charging network before you travel.

Practical Tips

  • Download the Chargy app. It is the national charging network and covers hundreds of charging points across Luxembourg.
  • Chargy OK chargers are the fast DC version (50-320 kW), located at strategic points including motorway rest areas and Park and Ride lots.
  • Many Park and Ride facilities near train stations have Chargy AC chargers, making them convenient for commuters.
  • Luxembourg is small. You can reach any point in the country from the center in about 45 minutes, so one charge usually covers a full day of driving.
  • Shell Recharge and Ionity chargers are also present along the A3, A6, and A13 motorways.

How to Pay

Chargy chargers accept the Chargy app, RFID cards from Chargy partners, and increasingly contactless bank cards at Chargy OK fast chargers. Roaming via Shell Recharge and Plugsurfing works at many locations. Ionity stations accept the Ionity app or roaming partners. Luxembourg uses the euro, so pricing is straightforward for eurozone visitors.

Recommended roaming cards

A roaming card lets you charge across multiple networks with one account. In Luxembourg, the most useful are:

  • Plugsurfing
  • DKV

Charging Costs

Prices are approximate averages including 17% VAT. Actual costs vary by network, time of day, and subscription plans.

Home charging is significantly cheaper than public DC fast charging in Luxembourg. If you have access to a home charger or workplace charging, use it for daily needs and save DC fast charging for road trips.

EV Incentives for Businesses

Road Trips

Luxembourg's motorway network is compact, with the A1, A3, A6, and A13 connecting major towns. Fast chargers are available at key rest stops and exits. Transit through Luxembourg between Belgium, Germany, and France is easy with a quick top-up at any Chargy OK station. Fuel is historically cheap in Luxembourg, but EV charging prices are competitive with neighboring countries.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not over-plan charging stops. Luxembourg is so compact that one charge at a Chargy OK station covers most driving needs for the day.
  • Do not skip the Chargy app thinking roaming alone will cover everything. Some Chargy AC chargers work best with the native app.
  • Do not confuse Chargy (AC, slower) with Chargy OK (DC, fast). Check the charger type before planning a quick stop.
  • Do not forget that fuel station habits do not apply. Most EV chargers are at Park and Ride lots, shopping areas, or rest stops, not traditional fuel stations.

Good to Know

  • Public transport in Luxembourg is free for everyone, including trains and buses. This means fewer EV drivers in cities, and chargers in urban areas are often available.
  • Luxembourg has no motorway tolls. Driving through the country is free.
  • The country is trilingual (Luxembourgish, French, German). Charger screens typically offer French and German options.
  • Luxembourg invests heavily in green energy. Much of the electricity powering chargers comes from renewable sources.
