Why the Volkswagen ID.3?

  • 365 km WLTP rated range covers even the busiest appointment day with room to spare
  • Compact hatchback size is easy to park at residential locations and care facilities
  • Plug & Charge support simplifies public charging for team members who are new to EVs
  • Battery preconditioning keeps fast charging efficient when winter visits run long

Key Specifications

Battery (useable) 59 kWh
WLTP range 434 km
Consumption 162 Wh/km
Max DC charging 165 kW
DC charge (10-80%) ~25 min
AC full charge (11 kW) ~5.4 h

Charging Strategy for Home Care and Field Service

Charge overnight at home or at the depot on an 11 kW AC wallbox. A full charge from 10% takes about 5-6 hours. For most 100 km days, charging every other night is enough. If a team member needs a top-up during the day, a 20-minute DC fast charge adds about 120 km of range.

Overnight AC charging (recommended)

Plugging in at a depot or home charger (7-22 kW) overnight fully replenishes the battery. At 11 kW, the Volkswagen ID.3 charges from empty in approximately 5.4 hours, easily done overnight.

Mid-day DC top-up

If overnight charging is not available, a DC fast charge during a break can add enough range. At 165 kW peak, the Volkswagen ID.3 charges from 10% to 80% in roughly 25 minutes.

Practical Tips

  • Most team members can charge at home overnight and never need a public charger for daily appointments.
  • Set up a simple charging expense process early. Reimbursing home electricity is cheaper than public charging and easier than you think.
  • The ID.3 supports Plug & Charge at compatible stations, removing the need to juggle charging apps or cards.
  • In cold weather, pre-heat the cabin while plugged in. This preserves range and means arriving at the first appointment warm and ready.

Operational Notes

The 365 km WLTP rated range far exceeds the typical 100 km daily requirement. Even on busy days with rural appointments, range is rarely a concern. As a passenger car, payload is not a factor for this use case. The ID.3 is well suited for care workers, visiting nurses, and field service technicians who carry tools and personal equipment.
