Winter Range

Polestar 2 Winter Range

Updated March 2026

The Polestar 2 offers preconditioning as standard and an optional heat pump that makes a real difference in winter. Drivers using our app report that the heat pump significantly reduces range loss in cold weather. At -10C with the heat pump, expect about 20% less range from the 420 km rating. Without the heat pump, cold-weather losses are noticeably higher. In cold weather, expect roughly 402 km at -10°C, a loss of about 27%. These are estimates and your actual range will vary. Check your vehicle's manual for exact specifications.

Maximizing Winter Range

  • Precondition the Polestar 2 through the Polestar app while plugged in. This warms the cabin and battery using grid power, so you start with full range and a battery at optimal operating temperature.
  • If your Polestar 2 has the optional heat pump (part of the Plus pack), it handles winter heating much more efficiently. Pair it with the heated seats, steering wheel, and windshield for the best cold-weather comfort.
  • Keep the Polestar 2 plugged in when parked in cold conditions. The battery stays warmer and is ready to deliver its full 149 kW DC charging speed without needing to warm up first.
  • The Polestar 2's one-pedal driving mode recovers meaningful energy in stop-and-go winter traffic. It also provides a more controlled driving feel on slippery surfaces.
  • In very cold conditions (below -20C), expect about 28% range loss with the heat pump, potentially more without it. Charge more frequently and avoid letting the battery drop below 20% in freezing weather.
