Winter Range

BMW i7 Winter Range

Updated March 2026

The BMW i7 tackles winter with its standard heat pump, preconditioning, and a massive 101.7 kWh battery. With 520 km of rated range, expect around 375-415 km in mild cold and 335-375 km in severe cold. Drivers using our app report that the i7's large battery provides such a generous buffer that winter range loss rarely affects daily plans. In cold weather, expect roughly 446 km at -10°C, a loss of about 27%. These are estimates and your actual range will vary. Check your vehicle's manual for exact specifications.

Maximizing Winter Range

  • Precondition the i7 through the BMW app while plugged in. The luxury cabin is spacious and takes more energy to heat, so warming it on grid power saves significant battery range.
  • The i7's standard heat pump handles heating the large cabin efficiently, but use zone climate control to heat only occupied areas. The rear heated seats and heated armrests help passengers stay warm without raising the overall cabin temperature.
  • At 80% charge, the i7 still has over 300 km available even in cold weather. You may not need to increase your charge limit at all in winter if your daily driving is under 200 km.
  • The i7's DC fast charging at up to 195 kW is temperature-sensitive. Use the navigation to route to chargers so the car preconditions the battery en route, avoiding the slow charge speeds of a cold battery.
  • Reduce highway speed in severe cold. The i7 is a large, heavy sedan, and the combination of cold air density and vehicle mass means consumption rises more steeply at high speeds in winter.
