Why Your Charging Speed May Differ

The Audi Q4 e-tron supports up to 175 kW DC charging. K-Lataus chargers deliver up to 200 kW. Your car's maximum intake is the limiting factor here, capping speed at 175 kW even on a faster charger.

Audi Q4 e-tron Charger Won't Start Charging

You have plugged in your Q4 e-tron, the connector clicked into the charge port on the right rear fender, but nothing happens. The MMI screen stays silent or shows an error. This is frustrating, but it is almost always fixable on the spot without calling roadside assistance.

  • CCS2 or Type 2 connector plugged in but no charging indicator on the MMI touchscreen

What to Do

    Check for a charging schedule or departure timer

    On the MMI touchscreen, go to the e-tron charging settings. If a timer or departure schedule is active, switch it to charge immediately or turn off the timer. You can also check the myAudi app for active schedules.

    Unplug and reconnect firmly

    Open the charge port on the right rear fender using the button on the port or through the MMI screen. Remove the connector, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert it firmly until you hear a clear click. Watch the charge port LED for a steady response.

    Restart the charger session

    On the charger, end the current session if one is active. Then start a new session by tapping your RFID card, using contactless payment, or restarting in the charger operator's app.

    Try Plug & Charge or a different payment method

    If your Q4 e-tron has Plug & Charge set up through the myAudi app, make sure the charger supports it. Otherwise, switch to a different RFID card, contactless payment, or the charger operator's own app.

    Press and hold the power button on the MMI touchscreen for about 10 seconds until the screen goes dark and restarts. Once it is back, try plugging in again. This resets the charging communication on the car's side.

Audi Q4 e-tron Charging Payment Failed at Station

You are at the charger, your Q4 e-tron is plugged in, but the payment will not go through. The charger shows an error or just sits there waiting. Payment failures at public chargers are common and usually have nothing to do with your car. Here is how to get charging.

  • RFID card is not recognized by the charger's reader

    If your RFID card failed, try contactless with your bank card or phone. If contactless failed, try the charger operator's app. Having two or three payment options gives you the best chance of getting going.

    Open the myAudi app on your phone. Make sure your Audi charging account is active, your payment method is valid, and Plug & Charge is enabled if you want to use it. Try starting the session remotely through the app.

    Scan the charger's QR code

    Most public chargers have a QR code on the unit. Scanning it with your phone's camera opens the operator's payment page. You can usually pay with a credit card through the browser without downloading an app.

    Check your bank app for blocked transactions

    Open your banking app and check for any flagged or blocked transactions. Some banks require you to approve the charge manually. If you see a notification, approve it and try the payment again.

    Try Plug & Charge if available

    If the charger supports Plug & Charge and your Q4 e-tron has it activated through the myAudi app, simply unplug and replug the CCS2 connector. The payment should authorize automatically through the cable without any card or app.

Audi Q4 e-tron Charging Slower Than Expected

You plugged in your Q4 e-tron expecting 135 kW and the MMI touchscreen shows 30 kW. Or your home wallbox is stuck at 3 kW instead of the full 11 kW. Slow charging on the Q4 e-tron is almost never a defect. It is usually the battery temperature, the charger itself, or a setting in the MMI system you can fix right now.

Symptoms

  • DC fast charging speed well below the 135 kW maximum shown on the MMI touchscreen
  • AC home charging stuck at 3-4 kW instead of the full 11 kW
  • Charging speed drops significantly after reaching 50-60% state of charge
  • Charging session starts at a reasonable speed but drops quickly within minutes
  • MMI display shows lower power than the charger's rated output

What to Do

    Check the battery temperature

    Look at the charging screen on the MMI touchscreen. If the battery is cold, use the navigation system to route to the fast charger. The Q4 e-tron will precondition the battery automatically on the way. If you are already at the charger, driving for 15-20 minutes and returning can help.

    Check your state of charge

    Look at the digital instrument cluster or MMI screen. If you are above 80%, the slower speed is expected. For the fastest charging, arrive at the charger between 10-20% and charge to 80%.

    Verify the charger is not sharing power

    Look at the charger unit. If there are two cables and someone is using the other one, you may be sharing power. Move to an unoccupied charger if one is available.

    Check the AC charge current setting

    On the MMI touchscreen, go to the charging settings menu. Make sure the AC charge current is set to maximum. On the Q4 e-tron, this is under the e-tron charging section in the vehicle settings.

    On the MMI touchscreen, check for available updates, or use the myAudi app to see if an over-the-air update is ready. Audi has released updates that improve the Q4 e-tron's DC charging curve on the MEB platform.

Common K-Lataus Issues

Session fails to start or charger shows an error

The charger does not begin charging after you plug in and authenticate. This can happen due to communication issues between your vehicle and the charger, or a problem with authentication.

  • You plug in and authenticate but the charger displays an error
  • The charger screen stays on the welcome screen and does not proceed
  • The app shows 'session starting' but nothing happens at the charger
  • The connector locks but no power flows

    Unplug, wait 30 seconds, and try again

    The initial communication handshake between your vehicle and the charger sometimes fails. Unplug the connector, wait at least 30 seconds, and reconnect. The second attempt often works.

    Try starting the session from the K-Lataus app

    If RFID authentication is not working, open the K-Lataus app, select the station and charger, and start the session through the app instead.

    Try a different charger unit at the same station

    If the station has multiple charger units, switch to another one. One unit may have a hardware issue while the others work fine.

    Check that your vehicle is ready to charge

    Make sure your vehicle is not in a state that prevents charging, such as a charging schedule being active, the charge port not fully engaged, or a vehicle-side error. Check your vehicle's dashboard for any warnings.

Setting up the K-Lataus app for the first time

K-Lataus has its own dedicated app. First-time setup requires a K-Group account and a payment method linked specifically to the K-Lataus service.

  • You are not sure which app to use for K-Lataus charging
  • Your K-Group login works on the K-Group website but not in the K-Lataus app
  • You cannot find a way to add a payment method for charging
  • You cannot find the K-Lataus app in your app store

How to Fix It

    Install the K-Lataus app

    Search for 'K-Lataus' in the App Store or Google Play and install it. This is the dedicated app for K-Lataus EV charging. K-Ruoka is for groceries, not for charging.

    Log in with your K-Group credentials

    Use the same K-Group username and password you use for other K-Group services. If you do not have a K-Group account yet, you can create one in the app.

    Add a payment method in the K-Lataus app

    Go to payment settings in the K-Lataus app and add a credit or debit card. The K-Lataus app manages its own payment methods separately from other K-Group services.

    Use the map in the K-Lataus app to find a nearby station. Plug in your vehicle, then tap Start in the app or use an RFID card to begin charging.

Parking time limits at grocery store locations

K-Lataus chargers sit in K-Citymarket and K-Market parking lots, which often have monitored parking with time limits. You may get a parking notice if you stay too long.

  • You see parking time limit signs (e.g. 2 or 3 hours) in the parking lot
  • You received a parking notice even though you were charging
  • Your charging session takes longer than the allowed parking time
  • Camera-monitored parking is active in the lot

    Check the parking rules when you arrive

    Most K-Citymarket and K-Market parking lots have posted time limits, often 2 to 4 hours, enforced by camera monitoring or a parking operator. These rules apply to EV charging spots too.

    Use a parking disc if required

    Many Finnish parking lots still require a parking disc (pysäköintikiekko). Set the arrival time and display it on your dashboard, even if the lot also has camera monitoring.

    Set a phone timer to move your car

    If you are shopping while charging, set an alarm so you can return before the parking limit expires. A DC fast charger at 200 kW should get you a substantial charge well within a 2-hour window.

    Unplug when charging is complete

    Do not leave your vehicle occupying the charging spot after it finishes. Other EV drivers need the spot, and some parking operators treat finished-but-still-connected vehicles as overstaying.

New stations not appearing in third-party apps

K-Lataus is expanding its network, but newer stations sometimes take weeks to appear in third-party apps and aggregators like PlugShare or Google Maps.

Symptoms

  • The K-Lataus app shows a station that does not appear in PlugShare or ABRP
  • You planned a route using a third-party app and it skipped a nearby K-Lataus station
  • A station listed as 'coming soon' in the K-Lataus app is actually already operational
  • Google Maps does not show K-Lataus chargers at a location where you know they exist

How to Fix It

    The K-Lataus app is always the most up-to-date source for K-Lataus stations. Third-party apps rely on data feeds that may lag behind actual station openings by days or weeks.

    The K-Lataus website also maintains a station map. Check it if the app is not giving you the information you need or if you want to plan ahead on a larger screen.

    Report missing stations to third-party apps

    If you use PlugShare or ABRP regularly, you can add missing stations yourself. This helps other EV drivers find K-Lataus locations that are not yet in the database.

Some older K-Lataus charger units perform less reliably in extreme cold. Winter in Finland brings temperatures that can affect both the charger hardware and your vehicle's battery.

  • Your charging history in the K-Lataus app shows energy delivered, duration, and cost per session. Use it to track your charging patterns and costs over time.
  • Make sure your K-Lataus app is updated regularly. K-Group adds new stations and features, and an outdated app may miss the latest additions.
