Ionity in Finland

Updated March 2026

Ionity stations in Finland are positioned along the main highway corridors, offering up to 350 kW. Finland's cold climate makes charging behavior different from Central Europe, as battery preconditioning becomes essential for good charging speeds in winter. Based on what our users tell us, knowing how to prepare your battery before arriving at a Finnish Ionity station can make the difference between a 20-minute stop and a 45-minute one.

How to Pay at Ionity in Finland

You can pay at Ionity in Finland using the Ionity app, a contactless bank card, or Plug & Charge. Finland uses EUR, so there is no currency conversion. Contactless payment is the fastest way to start a session, especially in cold weather when you want to minimize time outside the car.

Ionity's ad-hoc rate is about 0.75 EUR per kWh. The Finnish DC fast-charging average is approximately 0.45 EUR per kWh, making Ionity noticeably more expensive. Finland has some of Europe's cheapest home electricity at around 0.14 EUR per kWh, so the cost difference between home and public fast charging is very large.

Tips for Charging with Ionity in Finland

  • All stations use CCS2 connectors. Finland follows the European standard.
  • Precondition your battery in winter. Most EVs have a setting that warms the battery while driving to a fast charger. This dramatically improves charging speed in cold weather.
  • Finland uses EUR, so Ionity pricing is displayed in the currency you pay.
  • Distances between charging stations can be longer than in Central Europe, especially north of Tampere. Plan accordingly.
  • Contactless card payment works at Ionity stations, which is convenient in cold weather when fumbling with a phone is unpleasant.

Common Issues

  • Cold temperatures significantly reduce charging speeds if you do not precondition your battery before arriving.
  • Ionity's ad-hoc rate is nearly double the Finnish DC average. A subscription is worth considering.
  • Some stations in northern Finland may have fewer stalls, and in winter conditions, cables can be stiff and harder to handle.
  • Snow and ice around charger parking bays can make access difficult in winter. Approach carefully.

Finland has other fast-charging networks expanding along its highways, including a large domestic operator backed by a major retail group.
