What does GIREVE mean?

Updated March 2026

Short answer: A European eRoaming platform, strongest in France, that connects charging networks and enables cross-network access for drivers.

Explanation

GIREVE (Groupement pour l'Itinerance de la Recharge Electrique des Vehicules) is a French eRoaming platform that connects charging networks across Europe. It serves a similar function to Hubject, enabling drivers to use one card or app across multiple networks, but has particularly strong coverage in France and Southern Europe.

As a driver, you might encounter GIREVE when your charging card or app works at stations in France or other European countries where GIREVE has strong partnerships. Like Hubject, GIREVE operates in the background. You do not interact with it directly.

GIREVE also maintains a register of charging stations and provides data services to help charging networks share station information (location, availability, pricing) across platforms. This is why a charger that appears in one app often shows up in others with accurate real-time availability data.

Common confusion

Drivers sometimes think they need to choose between Hubject and GIREVE. In practice, your charging provider chooses which roaming platform(s) to use, and many use both. You just use your card or app as normal.
