What does White-Label Charger mean?

Updated March 2026

Share

Short answer: A charger manufactured by one company but branded and operated under another company's name and network.

Explanation

White-label chargers are built by hardware manufacturers and then sold to other companies who put their own branding on them. The charger you see with a local network's logo might be manufactured by ABB, Tritium, Kempower, or Alpitronic, but branded as if it belongs entirely to the network.

This is standard practice in the industry. Just as many petrol stations sell the same fuel under different brands, many charging networks use the same charger hardware under their own branding. The hardware manufacturer handles the engineering and production, while the network handles installation, software integration, and customer service.

As a driver, this rarely matters in practice. The software, pricing, and reliability depend more on the network operator than the hardware manufacturer. But if you notice that chargers from different networks look identical under different branding, now you know why.

Example

Many European charging networks use Alpitronic Hypercharger hardware under their own branding. The charger looks different on the outside, but the internals and power delivery are the same.
